Seven suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Mbekweni

Our pursuit to seize unlicensed firearms in the province yielded positive outcomes when members attached to Mbekweni SAPS, Public Order Police and Winelands Cluster arrested seven suspects aged, two aged respectively on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, at a taxi rank in Wamkelekele, Mbekweni.
An Intelligence driven operation on 06 March in Mbekweni, to address taxi violence, resulted in the members to follow up on information that taxi drivers and guards kept firearms in the taxis to shoot on rival taxis.The vigilant members acted upon the information received and conducted a search at the mentioned taxi rank and they found two 9mm firearms (one with a serial number and the other filed off), magazines and ammunition in one of the taxi’s. Eight cellphones were also confiscated.
All suspects were arrested and they are expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrates Court on Monday, March  on the mentioned charges.
