Sudan is in Situation of Danger in Face of Corona Pandemic
The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that Sudan is in a situation of danger in the face of the corona pandemic, and attributed this to the seriousness of the pandemic and the country's ability to respond to any possible widespread outbreak of the disease. The World Health Organization said that the investment in the health system in Sudan has been limited for decades, and that Sudan lacks qualified medical staff and suffers from poor infrastructure, and lacks equipment and pharmaceutical supplies. The organization indicated that the health coverage and control system in Sudan is structurally weak and does not cover all the country; therefore there is a significant delay between the reporting of a pandemic and the response and confirmation on its spread.
The World Health Organization has pointed to all the measures taken by Sudan government to face coronavirus. It said that Sudan has established two isolation centers to treat corona patients, in addition to allocating military hospitals in the capital and the states as centers for shelter and treatment. The World Health Organization pointed out that Sudan government also closed all schools, universities, religious institutes, and higher education colleges for a month as of March 14, besides postponement of the basic schools examinations in all states until further notice. It said that Khartoum canceled all celebrations, camps and sports competitions and banned gatherings of weddings and funerals, adding that some of the government and private institutions have taken measures to reduce congestion in the workplace. It noted that the Sudanese Minister of Culture and Information issued a circular on March 16 giving all workers in his ministry a leave until March 29 and excluding only those holding important positions.
The organization said that the government Humanitarian Aid Commission announced a two-week vacation for employees of the Joint Action Center until March 31.
Prison authorities and rehabilitation centers have in turn taken more health measures and controls.
The World Health Organization added that the primary goal of the international response to the Corona pandemic is to stop human-to-human transmission of the virus within the community and to care for the infected.
